Well, this is a good month. It cheers me when I get to be positive about a visit and it doesn't matter that this was purely a fun visit rather than work! www.theblairgowriegolfclub.co.uk ![]() © Neil 2008 A couple of golfing friends and I set off to the Blairgowrie Golf Club this Tuesday for a day's golfing. The package was excellent value but that's not really the point of this Blog – though you could do little better than explore their web site for really good value for money golfing. Before we get back to the plot though I should say that there are 2 18 hole Championship courses, Rosemount and Lansdown plus a magnificent 9 Hole "Wee Course". The Lansdown, our course for the 18 holes, was designed by Peter Allis and Dave Thomas and is both beautiful and enough of a challenge for any golfer. The Championship distance of 7007 yards is reduced for the visitor to a par 72 of 6427 yards, and what if you do find the heather or end up among the silver birches – enjoy the beauty of it. Anyway, back to the plot. The newly remodelled Club House has all the usual facilities and smacks of the foyer of a 5 star hotel, and like a 5 star hotel your day starts at the reception desk which "books" you in and is connected to all other elements of your day's experience so the starter and catering know you're there ….. leaving you only having to worry about the golf. Our package included bacon rolls and coffee, soup for lunch and at the end of the day - dinner. It's the dinner that pushed me into print – not that the rest of the package didn't deserve the mention – but the catering, under the control of Ian Cook (yes, he has heard all the jokes) was a wondrous experience. A carvery and sweet selection right up there with the best I've come across, served by friendly, polite and interested staff. Ian came through and chatted to all the guests, members or not, confident that he had already won over their hearts and gastric juices. In all I have to say, and am supported by my two colleagues in this, that the level of service, across the board, from welcome to departure was first rate and should be applauded. The course itself was magnificent and manicured (so we can't forget the greens staff too who contributed to the experience). You could do no better than give it a try, its more than worth it – and for those who think I blew the family shopping budget on a bacon roll and coffee to start, 18 holes around Lansdown, soup and sandwiches, the Wee Course and dinner, don't fret, the whole package was £59 and for that reason alone you should go!
