Projects

Extensive bridleway improvement works were carried out in the summer of 2003 on the route from Malham Moor Lane accross Threshfield Moor to Moor Lane track. The work involved the creation of a subsoil path which was then topped off with aggregate to create a hard wearing sustainable surface. The aggregate was flown to site by helicopter

Work was carried out on various routes in the Parish of Threshfield and in particular the Long Ashes area as part of an 'Access for all' programme in 2003 to allow better accessibility to all users. Some stiles were removed and replaced with gates and a series of stone step stiles were rebuilt to allow easier access. There was extensive surfacing carried out on the paths around the Caravan Parks, this work was done with the help of our Dales Volunteers and a group of about 30 servicemen and women from RAF Cranwell.

The Environment

Experimental Traffic Regulation Orders North Yorkshire County Council and the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority have introduced experimental traffic regulation orders on a number of routes in the Dales making it illegal for their use by motor vehicles other than for access to property. This is part of a partnership project on 4 Green Lanes in the Dales seeking to determine whether the removal of of motorised vehicles adds to other users enjoyment of the area and helps conserve the environment. The routes in Upper Wharfedale that are affected are Mastiles Lane from Malham Moor to Kilnsey, Horsehead Pass from Yockenthwaite to Halton Gill, Starbotton Cam road to Hunter Sleets and Top Mere Road in Kettlewell.
